How do I create a new report?

Last updated on Oct 14, 2026

Short Answer: From the Reports page click '+ New report', enter a Report name and Period, add a data source with '+ Add data', configure Rows/Columns/Values/Layout, then click 'Run report'.

PreRequisites

  1. Be signed in to Cointab.

  2. Access to the Reports area permission to create reports.

  3. Have at least one data source ready reconciliation, another report output, or an Excel/CSV file.

Steps

  1. Open Reports and click '+ New report'.
The New report page opens with 'Report preview' and the right panel Data, Filters, Rows, Columns, Values, Layout.

  2. Enter a value in the 'Report name' field and select a 'Period'.
'Report name' and 'Period' are set for the run.

  3. Click '+ Add data' under 'Data used' in the right panel.
The 'Add data' modal opens with the three data-source options.

  4. Choose a data source: 'Use reconciliation data', 'Use output from another report', or 'Upload new data'.
The selected data-source flow opens to choose or upload data.

  5. Configure Rows, Columns and Values and adjust layout under the 'Layout' tab as needed.
Report layout is configured and the preview updates accordingly.

  6. Click 'Run report'.
The report run starts and the preview reflects sample output. Calculations use the complete data.

  7. Return to Reports to view the run in the runs table if needed.
The new run appears in the Runs table when complete.

Troubleshooting

  1. Clicking 'Run report' shows no results or the preview stays blank.
LikelyCause: No data source was added or 'Period' was not selected.
Action: Click '+ Add data' to add a data source and select a 'Period', then click 'Run report' again.

  2. 'Add data' does not open or the modal fails to load.
LikelyCause: Temporary UI load or network issue.
Action: Refresh the page, try again, or check your network. If the problem persists, contact your admin or support.

  3. Preview numbers differ from the final run.
LikelyCause: Preview shows sample rows; calculations always use the complete data.
Action: Run the report to see final numbers and verify the data source.
