How do I upload new data (Excel or CSV) to use in a report?

Last updated on Oct 14, 2026

Short Answer: Click '+ Add data', choose 'Upload new data', then select and upload an Excel (.xlsx) or CSV file to load sample rows into the report preview.

PreRequisites

  1. Be signed in to Cointab.

  2. Have an Excel (.xlsx) or CSV file prepared.

Steps

  1. On the New report page click '+ Add data'.
    The 'Add data' modal opens.

  2. Select 'Upload new data'.
A file picker appears to choose an Excel or CSV file.

  3. Choose your Excel or CSV file in the file picker and confirm upload.
The file uploads and sample rows appear in the preview.

  4. Verify columns and then configure Rows, Columns, and Values.
Sample data displays and fields are available to use in the report.

Troubleshooting

  1. Upload fails or file not accepted.
LikelyCause: File type not supported or file is corrupt/too large.
Action: Save the data as .xlsx or .csv, ensure it opens locally, reduce file size, then re-upload.

  2. Uploaded file appears but columns are missing.
LikelyCause: File has unexpected formatting merged cells, headers in wrong row.
Action: Open the file, place headers in the first row, remove merged cells, then re-upload.

Note: Option text: 'Upload a new Excel or CSV file.'
