How do I certify an account that still has an unexplained difference?

Last updated on Oct 16, 2026

Short Answer: As the Reviewer, open the account, click 'Certify', read the '₹... remains unexplained' warning, and click 'Certify anyway' to mark it Certified.

PreRequisites

  1. You must be the assigned Reviewer for the account

  2. Account has been submitted for review or is open in review

Steps

  1. Open the account detail that is 'Awaiting review'.

Account shows 'Awaiting review' and summary panels.

  2. Click the 'Certify' button at the bottom right of the account modal.

A 'Certify account?' confirmation modal opens.

  3. Read the warning ('₹2,40,000 remains unexplained...') and, if you accept it, click 'Certify anyway'.

Account status becomes 'Certified' in the Balance Sheet list.

Troubleshooting

  1. I don't see the 'Certify' button.

Likely Cause: You are not the assigned Reviewer or the account is not in a reviewable state.

Action: Check the 'Reviewer' field in the account header (it should list the assigned reviewer) or ask the assigned reviewer to certify.

  1. I want to reduce the unexplained difference before certifying.

Likely Cause: Unexplained difference is > 0.

Action: Add supporting items or upload supporting file to increase Supported balance before certifying (use '+ Add supporting item' or 'Upload file' in Supporting items).

Note: The 'Certify account?' modal explicitly warns that the unexplained difference will remain visible if you proceed.
